Weekly camps/workshops are for children ages 4 to 18, run each day in the summer months and are focused on many mediums. These camps are not oriented toward crafts. The goal is to expose children to as many mediums as possible in a week's time while allowing for lots of experimentation within the children themselves. As always, there is Art History with many of the projects. Each child works at their own pace so there is no pressure to slow down or speed up for the group.
These classes are designed to give children the chance to develop their imagination through age appropriate fun two and three dimensional projects. Projects will include modified clay, collage, drawing, acrylic, watercolor paints, and printmaking while also learning art history as many of the projects are related to the master artists of the past and present.
These classes are designed to develop technique as well as self-expression while using the same mediums as the younger classes. These classes are a transition to the more independent format of the high school class.
These teens are given the opportunity to work on whatever skills, techniques and mediums they so choose. Students are encouraged to come to class with a folder and or sketch book with ideas on what they would like to study. Often these children work toward building portfolio with specific lists of projects that will fulfill the requirements for college admittance. There however many teens who attend these class are there to express their creativity, learn about themselves, refine techniques and to have fun.
“The journey truly is the destination when it comes to doing art.”
Classes focus on developing a technical toolbox of skills (shading, perspective, color theory, and composition, just to mention a few) with each child. While each class is not end-product minded, the children will be learning on a continual basis much like learning to do math, with a very definite progression. This method of learning over time, without pressure, creates a better work of art in the end. The children develop their eye and their own style.
I believe in giving children the chance to really develop their imagination through age appropriate, fun, two and three dimensional projects. The children will explore modified clay, collage, drawing, acrylic, watercolor paints, and printmaking while also learning art history as many of the projects are related to the master artists of the past and present.
The Wednesday night classes age 13-18 focus on painting and drawing .These classes are independent study so teens are encouraged to bring in ideas and thoughts on what they want to learn. I of course am here to help them with ideas and projects if needed but the hope is that they will have a sense of the things they really want to focus on
